Bayern Munich advanced to the Champions League semifinals for the fifth straight season with a 2–2 draw against Benfica.
Goals from Arturo Vidal and Thomas Muller secured the Bundesliga side's place in the penultimate round.
Bayern Munich won the first leg at Allianz Arena 1–0, but Benfica leveled the tie on a 27th–minute goal from Mexico international Raul Jimenez. Benfica defender Eliseu found Jimenez in the box on a long ball forward. Jimenez beat Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer to the ball and converted with his head.
Jimenez started due to the suspension of top scorer Jonas.
Just 11 minutes later, Vidal scored for Bayern Munich to re–gain the lead for Pep Guardiola's side, giving Bayern a critical away goal. Vidal received the ball courtesy of a deflection outside the box and connected on a thundering strike.
Later, Bayern Munich earned a second critical away goal to take control of the tie courtesy of Muller, who found the back of the net off a corner.
Benfica pulled one back later in the second half after a scintillating Talisca free kick, but Bayern held on for the win.
