Watch: Marquez, Herrera finish off Uruguay for Mexico at Copa America
Mexico got out to a victorious start to Copa America Centenario, beating Uruguay 3-1 in a riveting, contentious affair at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
Rafa Marquez scored the game-winning goal in the 85th minute, and Hector Herrera iced the match in stoppage time with a close-range header to put Mexico atop Group C with three points and a better goal differential than Venezuela.
Mexico scored in the fourth minute on an Alvaro Pereira own goal, and it looked like it would be El Tri's night after Matias Vecino was sent off just before halftime. Uruguay battled back with 10 men, though, and moments after Andres Guardado was sent off, Diego Godin scored an equalizer off a free kick.
Mexico prevailed, though, beating its toughest foe in the group stage and the most successful team in Copa America history (15 titles).
