Hungary shocks Austria in return to European Championship stage

Hungary enjoyed a successful return to the European Championship stage for the first time since 1972.

Adam Szalai scored in the 62nd minute, and Zoltan Stieber added another on the counterattack in the 87th, as Hungary dropped storied rival Austria 2-0 in Bordeaux. Austria was weakened in the 66th minute, when Aleksandar Dragovic was sent off for his second yellow card.

Gabor Kiraly, who, at 40 years and 74 days became the oldest player ever in a European Championship, earned the clean sheet. The match is a disappointment for the Austrians, who were tabbed by many as a dark-horse candidate for a deep run and boast the likes of Bayern Munich's David Alaba, Leicester City's Christian Fuchs and Stoke City's Marko Arnautovic.
