One fan made Will Grigg a cult hero with this brilliant chant.
Northern Ireland's Will Grigg has become a cult hero over the last couple of months, thanks to one very creative fan and a supporter base that has gone all in.
Sean Kennedy's rendition of "Will Grigg is on fire" has turned the 24-year-old Wigan Athletic striker into a household name. Grigg has yet to play at Euro 2016, and Northern Ireland is fighting for a place in the quarterfinals against Wales on Saturday on Tuesday.
The chant, which combines renditions of Alicia Keys's "This girl is on fire" and Gala's "Freed from desire," has gone viral, with fans even calling a fire station to report that the forward was indeed ablaze (he wasn't). It's gotten to the point where Germany's World Cup-winning center back Mats Hummels was asked whether he was fearful of the forward, to which he replied, according to Sky Sports: "I really love this song. I would like to say yes [our defense is terrified] but I can't agree," before adding that he wants to swap shirts with Grigg after the match.
Supporters at Northern Ireland matches have chanted Kennedy's song at Euro 2016 despite the forward's lack of playing time. Watch the original, the prank call and the Euro 2016 editions below:
Grigg scored 25 goals last season for Wigan in England's third tier, following a 20-goal season for Milton Keynes Dons. If Kennedy and Northern Ireland supporters have their way, he'll get a chance to score his first at the Euros on Saturday.
