Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal played to a 1-1 draw in the Champions League, with Alexis Sanchez canceling out Edinson Cavani's first-minute tally in their Group A opener in Paris.
Both teams wound up with 10 men, as Olivier Giroud and Marco Verratti were sent off in stoppage time for an off-ball altercation. That capped the anticipated matchup between the two group favorites who are both striving to raise the bar in the competition. Arsenal has the round-of-16 hump that has plagued it for years, while PSG adapts to life without the services of Zlatan Ibrahimovic under new manager Unai Emery, who has overseen a shaky start to the club's Ligue 1 campaign.
Its start to the Champions League, however, couldn't have gone any better. Cavani met Serge Aurier's cross in the opening minute, giving the hosts a lead just 42 seconds after the start with his header:

PSG couldn't extend its advantage, though, allowing Arsenal to hang around, and Alexis Sanchez made the hosts pay with his equalizer in the 77th minute, firing home from just inside the box.

Without Giroud and Verratti, both clubs will move forward with a point. The entire group, in fact, is level after one match, with Basel and Ludogorets also playing to a 1-1 draw in their opener.
Arsenal hosts Basel on the next matchday, while PSG travels to Ludogorets.
