Klay Thompson Next Team Market on Kalshi Continues to Point to Heat

Although Klay Thompson has yet to hit the NBA free agency market, he’s the most talked-about player right now as reports and rumors hint at the Dallas Mavericks buying him out of his contract. With a buyout on the horizon, Kalshi has opened its NBA Next Team market for Thompson, with the Miami Heat topping the board at 55%.

Public interest in Thompson and Miami’s desperate need for shooting are driving the Heat’s price to the top. At the current price, a $10 trade profits $7.36. Kalshi settles the market on October 21 based on which team Klay Thompson is with by then.

Several insiders and analysts around the team are sparking the rumors and the price movement. Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald spoke about Thompson potentially being bought out and quoted Miami Heat insider Ethan Skolnick as well, who reported that Thompson wants to play for Miami.

"We've reported for weeks here that the Heat plans to try to sign Thompson if the Mavericks buy him out, which is a good possibility," Jackson wrote. "And Five Reason Network's Ethan Skolnick reported this week that Thompson wants to play for the Heat. The Mavericks have 16 players with guaranteed contracts and are expected to discuss a buyout with Thompson, who's due $17.5 million next season, if they remain unable to trade him."

The fit

Thompson would be a perfect fit on Miami’s current roster. The Heat lost several shooters in the offseason: Norman Powell, who left in free agency, and Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., and Kasparas Jakucionis, whom they traded for Giannis. Both Powell and Herro were Miami’s top-2 shooters last season.

Thompson brings a 40.9% career 3-point average to the table and would complement both Giannis and Bam’s styles of play as they dominate the paint.

As rumors and reports continue to swirl, Miami gets ready for a new-look roster ahead of the season with their preseason tipping off in just over a month on Saturday, October 3rd.
