Matt Kenseth took the pole at Texas Motor Speedway ahead of Sunday's Sprint Cup race, the Associated Press reported on Friday.

Kenseth ran a final-round lap of 199.299 mph to beat out seven other drivers eligible for the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship.

Jeff Gordon will start on the outside front as one of five Chase qualifiers to start in the top 10. That group includes Kevin Harvick starting in fifth, Ryan Newman starting in seventh and Joey Logano starting in 10th place.

Ganassi, Penske change team names; new Sprint Cup director chosen

Brad Keselowski will start 26th. He has the lowest start position of the Chase qualifiers.

Tony Stewart ran NASCAR's first 200-mph qualifying lap on an intermediate track, as well.
