Will Power poised to make 100th start for Team Penske

Will Power heads to Detroit this weekend poised to make his 100th start for Team Penske.

The milestone race will occur Sunday at Belle Isle, which hosts an IndyCar doubleheader this weekend. It will actually be the 145th career start for Power, who began his career in 2005 with Walker/Team Australia and KV Racing Technology before joining Penske in 2009.

His first start for the team was on the streets of St. Petersburg as the temporary replacement for Helio Castroneves. He had no guarantee of a future with Penske beyond filling in for Castroneves, but he scored a win in six races with the team and was a full-time Penske driver the next year.

''The second race I did was Long Beach and I kind of thought I have a chance of staying here because I qualified on pole and finished second,'' Power said. ''It really gave me the opportunity to show what I could do, which is really hard sometimes in motorsport. A lot of guys don't get that chance because it's a full team sport and you have to be with the team for more than a few races to give you a bit of longevity for one because it's difficult to do it in one (race), and two they have to have the resources and sponsorship.''

Power has since won 22 races for Penske, and last season's IndyCar championship. He won on the road course at Indy earlier this month, then was second to Penske teammate Juan Pablo Montoya in Sunday's Indianapolis 500.

At 34 years old, Power has a long career ahead of him, but doesn't see himself driving for anyone but Penske.

''It's definitely what's in my mind is to finish my career with Team Penske,'' Power said. ''I think this sport is about continuity.''

He cited his longtime relationship with engineer David Faustino, race strategist Tim Cindric and chief mechanic Matt Jonsson for his success.

''I feel the four of us are a very strong combination,'' he said.

JOHNSON'S HISTORY: Jimmie Johnson will attempt to become just the fifth NASCAR driver with 10 or more wins at a single track in Sunday's race at Dover International Speedway.

Should Johnson win, he would join NASCAR Hall of Famers Richard Petty (Martinsville-15, North Wilkesboro-15, Richmond-13, Rockingham-11, Daytona-10), Darrell Waltrip (Bristol-12, Martinsville-11, North Wilkesboro-10), Dale Earnhardt (Talladega-10) and David Pearson (Darlington-10) as drivers to win 10 races at a single track.

Johnson, the defending race winner, holds the Dover record with nine victories.

He has been dominant at the Delaware race track since his rookie season in 2002, when he led 188 laps to win the June race. In September of that year, he led 170 laps to complete the sweep.

Johnson has swept the spring and fall events at Dover twice in his career. He did it again in 2009.

JET DRYER JOKES: The jokes have followed Juan Pablo Montoya since he collided with a jet dryer during the 2012 Daytona 500.

The collision occurred under caution when Montoya was trying to catch up to the field. A truck arm broke in his suspension, causing the Colombian to lose control of his car. He was helpless as it slammed directly into the jet dryer and created a fiery inferno.

Fans have used social media to poke fun at the moment ever since, but Brad Keselowski has had enough.

Keselowski and Montoya are technically now teammates since Montoya moved to Team Penske's IndyCar organization last year. He congratulated Montoya via Twitter following Montoya's win in the Indianapolis 500, then defended the Colombian when he noticed fans posting jet dryer jokes.

''Cmon peeps. He just won the (hash)Indy500! Give him at least a month without a jet dryer joke,'' Keselowski posted.

WILSON-FORMULA E: Andretti Autosport will use Justin Wilson for its Formula E team at the Moscow ePrix.

Wilson will drive the all-electric No. 28 in the June 4 race. He is coming off consecutive IndyCar races with Andretti Autosport, including the Indianapolis 500.

Wilson said he has been following Formula E since it launched this year.

''It is a very interesting formula,'' he said. ''I know there is a lot to learn, but I am excited about this new challenge and looking forward to the Moscow ePrix weekend.''

Wilson suffered a broken gearbox in the road course race at Indianapolis earlier this month. He was 18th in the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday.
