No Saturday practice for NASCAR Cup drivers on wet track

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) Sprint Cup drivers never got on the track in Texas on Saturday.

After several hours of trying to dry the track following a period of steady rain overnight, NASCAR canceled both scheduled practice sessions.

The cancellation of on-track activities for Cup drivers was announced about 45 minutes before the scheduled green flag for the Xfinity Series race. Work continued to get the track prepared for that race.

Workers drilled holes in some areas of the 1 1/2-mile, high-banked track in an effort to help drain water from underneath the asphalt.

Grounds in North Texas have been saturated by rain in the last couple of weeks.

There was one Cup practice session and qualifying Friday. Brad Keselowski is the polesitter for Sunday's race.
