Alex Ovechkin And Zbynek Michalek To Face Hearings

Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin and Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Zbynek Michalek will both face hearings today for hits registered in Sunday afternoon’s faceoff between their respective teams, according to the USA Today.

Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin is accused of giving an illegal check to the back of the head on Michalek. Similarly, Michalek allegedly struck Capitals player Matt Hendricks in the back of the head with his elbow. Michalek’s hearing will be first, according to USA Today, followed by Ovechkin’s this afternoon.

The Washington Capitals ultimately lost 4-3 to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the match. Down 0-2 at the end of the first period, Washington climbed back and scored three unanswered goals.  The Penguins forced the game into overtime with a third period goal, however, where they ultimately won the game.
