The Detroit Red Wings announced today that forward Darren Helm has signed a new four-year contract with the team. The Detroit Free Press reports that the deal is worth just over $8 million total, with about $2 million per year counting against the NHL salary cap. Helm, 25, was due to become a restricted free agent this offseason, but both the speedy forward and team wanted to stick together. Helm missed significant time this season due to a knee injury in March, but still scored nine goals with 12 assists through 68 games.
