Tyler Seguin, Bruins contract negotiations heat up

Boston Bruins right wing Tyler Seguin said Monday that contract negotiations between him and the team are progressing, WEEI's DJ Bean reported.

“There’s been discussions,” Seguin said at the Bruins’ annual golf tournament at The International in Bolton, Mass. “It’s looking good, and I’m looking forward to hopefully playing in Boston for many years.”

At only 20 years old, Seguin is approaching the final year of his entry-level contract. He's widely regarded as one of the best young players in the NHL, and he led the Bruins last season with 29 goals. He added 38 assists in 81 games.

“I want to stay here and start a life here,” Seguin said. “That’s what I’m looking for.”

Of course, that could be delayed by an impending NHL lockout that appears all but certain. The NHL and the league's players association had a quiet weekend, averting face-to-face communication for email and telephone. The NHL's current collective bargaining agreement expires next Saturday.

Seguin said he wasn't sure where he would play in the case of a lockout.

"Obviously I want to be playing hockey, NHL first, and then I’ve thought about AHL, thought about going overseas, but nothing I can confirm on right now," he said.
