Report: Jaguars to cut CB Rashean Mathis
The Jacksonville Jaguars' youth movement is continuing this offseason and they are releasing the franchise's career interception leader.
“Believe it or not, I’m at peace with everything,” he told the Times-Union. “Playing in my hometown for 10 years and doing things the right way, I’m blessed to be able to say that. Could I ask for anything more than that being drafted out of Bethune-Cookman? Who would have drawn that up? No painter could have drawn that up."
Mathis, 32, has missed 11 games the past two seasons and had 20 tackles last season for the 2-14 Jaguars. The Jaguars defense ranked 30th in the NFL in 2012.
“It was a difficult decision because he’s done so many things not only for the team but the community,” Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell said. “Like I told him, I’ve had the utmost respect watching him from afar during my time in Indianapolis and my time in Atlanta. He’s been such a true professional on and off the field.”
