NHL suspends Joffrey Lupul two games for hit on Victor Hedman

Joffrey Lupul of the Toronto Maple Leafs has been suspended two games by the NHL for his hit on Victor Hedman, as first reported by Chris Johnston of Rogers SportsNet.

Lupul faced a disciplinary hearing Thursday after his hit to the head of Tampa Bay's Hedman Wednesday night. The Maple Leafs left winger wasn't sure if his hit was illegal during postgame interviews.

“I was back-checking and he kind of cut to the middle at the end,” Lupul said after the game. “I wasn’t even truly tracking him to hit him and he just came back into me.

“I didn’t realize I got him in the head. I’ve got to see the replay, but by no means did I go for the head.”

Hedman eventually returned to the game.
