Alain Vigneault has been fired as coach of the Vancouver Canucks

The Vancouver Canucks have fired head coach Alain Vigneault and assistant coaches Rick Bowness and Newell Brown, according to Louis Jean of TVA Sports.

Vigneault's future with the team had been in doubt since the Canucks made first-round exits in the NHL playoffs the last two years including a sweep at the hands of the Sharks this postseason.

The Jack Adams Award winner as the NHL’s best coach in 2006-07 led the Canucks to the Presidents’ Trophy twice in his seven seasons, but has been on the hot seat after the team lost an emotional Stanley Cup final in 2011 and never advanced past the second round since.
