The Atlanta Braves have placed Brandon Beachy on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation, per Mark Bowman of MLB.com.

Beachy saw his velocity dip in his last start on Tuesday. He made his season debut July 29 after a 13-month recovery from Tommy John surgery. Beachy will visit Dr. James Andrews, who performed the surgery, on Monday.

Four of Beachy's five outings this year have been "quality starts," though his ERA — 4.50 — is a career-high. The 26-year-old is 2-1.

Atlanta is already without Tim Hudson, who fractured his ankle in late July. The Braves’ starting rotation is fifth in the National League in ERA (3.58) and seventh in batting average against (.252).

The Braves announced Friday they had acquired veteran pitcher Freddy Garcia, who expects to spend a week in Triple-A before joining the club as a member of the rotation or a long reliever.
