Jameis Winston named Florida State's starting QB

Florida State has tabbed redshirt freshman Jameis Winston as its starting quarterback, multiple outlets report.

Winston beat redshirt sophomore Jacob Coker out for the job.

The No. 1 quarterback in the 2012 class, per Rivals.com, Winston completed 12 of 15 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns in FSU's spring game. He's a two-sport star who hit .265 in 102 at-bats and notched a 1.80 ERA in 14 appearances with the Seminoles' baseball team this season.

STAPLES: Hype growing around Winston

As a senior in high school, Winston completed 69 percent of his passes for 2,424 yards and 28 touchdowns while rushing for 1,065 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Florida State is trying to replace EJ Manuel, who the Buffalo Bills selected in the first round of this year's NFL Draft.

The Seminoles open the season Sept. 2 at Pitt.
