The NHL has suspended Carter Ashton 2 games for boarding.

Maple Leaf's right wing Carter Ashton received a two-game suspension for boarding after his hit on Flames defensemen Derek Smith on Wednesday, according to USA Today.

Brendan Shanahan, the NHL's VP of player safety, ruled Ashton could have avoided or lessened the hit and added that "at no point did (Ashton) see anything but Smith's back." The 22-year-old received a two-minute boarding penalty in the game, and Smith appeared to be unhurt, although he did remain down on the ice for some time after the hit.
