SEC fines schools for rushing fields, noisemaking violations

The Southeastern Conference fined four schools a total of $60,000 for violating league policies during the football season, the conference announced Friday.

Mississippi State and Ole Miss were each hit a $25,000 fine for being repeat offenders.  The Bulldogs were fined for using an artificial noisemaker (cowbells) during games and Ole Miss was fined for fans rushing the field after the team's 27-24 victory over LSU on Oct. 19.

Auburn and Missouri's fans rushing the field also cost each school $5,000. The violations occurred on Nov. 30 after Auburn's thrilling 34-28 win over Alabama and Missouri’s 28-24 victory over Texas A&M.  Both victories clinched Auburn's and Missouri's appearance in the SEC Championship Game.

“These were some of the most exciting and intriguing games of the college football season and we understand the exuberance of our fans in the celebration of their schools’ victories, but these incidents pose a significant risk of injury and we must always make the health and safety of our student-athletes and fans the top priority,” said SEC commissioner Mike Slive.
