Michigan is preparing to start freshman Shane Morris at quarterback for its bowl game as starter Devin Gardner continues to be hampered by turf toe, reports Adam Rittenberg of

The Wolverines play Kansas State in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl on Saturday.

Morris has only attempted nine passes in four games this season.

Gardner has been injured since Nov. 30, when he hurt his left foot against Ohio State. When the team arrived in Phoenix for bowl preparations, Gardner was on crutches and wearing a walking boot.

"If we were playing tonight he would not play," Michigan head coach Brady Hoke said. "We're going into it that Shane will be the guy."
