Lindsey Vonn will most likely not be able to compete at the Olympics next month if she has another setback with her injured right knee, U.S. women's ski team coach Alex Hoedlmoser told the Associated Press on Saturday.

“She’s recovering and preparing and everything is [up] in the air,” Hoedlmoser said. ”Right now it’s a total open book.

“We don’t know. It totally depends on how she recovers, how the knee feels, if she gets the strength back, the stability in the knee.”

The coach said Vonn hasn't trained on snow since Dec. 21, when she skied out of a race in France and said afterward her right knee "completely gave out" and later swelled.

Vonn's best events are speed races — downhill and super-G — and those will be held in Italy on Jan. 18-19 and Germany on Jan. 25-26, respectively, leading up to the Games. The Olympic downhill is on Feb. 12, and super-G is Feb. 15. Vonn won gold and bronze in those races, respectively, at the Vancouver Games.

“We would like to see her get a couple more races in, but the injury she has, she’s always taking some risks doing that,” Hoedlmoser said. “And [if she has] another setback then she might not be able to do the Olympics."
