Xavier head coach Chris Mack has emerged as a candidate to replace Jeff Bzdelik as the men's basketball coach at Wake Forest, according to CBSSports.com's Gary Parrish.

Bzedlik resigned last week after posting a 51-76 overall record -- including a 17-51 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference -- and no NCAA tournament appearances in his four seasons at the school.

Mack, 44, was an assistant at Wake Forest for three years and has taken Xavier to four NCAA tournament appearances in his five seasons, including two Sweet 16 berths. This season, the Musketeers finished 21-12 (10-8 Big East) and lost to North Carolina State 74-59 in the NCAA First Four.

Sources told CBSSports.com that some of those boosters are now endorsing the candidacy of Mack, who is widely viewed as one of the top young coaches in college basketball. "He is being targeted for sure," one source told CBSSports.com.
