The NHL suspended Philadelphia Flyers forward Zac Rinaldo for four games without pay for an illegal check to the head of Buffalo Sabres defenseman Chad Ruhwedel, the league announced Monday.

During the third period of the Flyers' 5-2 victory over the Sabres, Rinaldo hit Ruhwedel in the head, which led to Rinaldo being assessed a match penalty and Ruhwedel sustaining a concussion.

Rinaldo will miss Tuesday's contest at Florida, Thursday's road game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Saturday's road game at Pittsburgh and the season finale against the Carolina Hurricanes on April 13.

Rinaldo, who has two goals and two assists to go along with a team-high 153 penalty minutes, will also forfeit $15,384.60 in salary because of the suspension.
