Montreal Canadiens forward Alex Galchenyuk will miss the team's first-round Stanley Cup playoff series against the Tampa Bay Lightning with a lower-body injury, the Canadiens announced Thursday night.

Galchenyuk missed the Canadiens' 2-0 loss to the Islanders after being injured in the first period of a 3-2 road loss to the Blackhawks on Wednesday. The injury occurred when Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa fell into Galchenyuk and landed on his knee.

Galchenyuk has 13 goals and 18 assists in 65 games this season. He had been playing left wing on Montreal's second line with Brendan Gallagher and Tomas Plekanec when he was injured. Canadiens captain Brian Gionta shifted from right wing to take Galchenyuk's place on the line in his absence.
