The NBA suspended Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins for one game without pay for receiving his 16th technical foul of the season, the league announced.

Cousins will not play in the team's season finale against the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday.

Per NBA rules, player or coaches that accumulate 16 technicals are automatically suspended for one game.  For every two additional technical fouls received during that regular season, the player or coach receive another automatic one-game suspension.

Cousins was hit with a technical with 1:13 left in the fourth quarter of the Kings' 106-103 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday after waving his arm at an official. He finished the game with 35 points, 15 rebounds and six assists.

It was his first technical foul in almost two months.

NBA President of Basketball Operations Rod Thorn said Monday that the league upheld the call.
