Kansas starting point guard Naadir Tharpe will not return for his senior season, the school announced Thursday.

Tharpe averaged 8.5 points and five assists this past season for the Jayhawks, who went lost to Stanford in the third round of the NCAA Tournament.

After the season, a photo of Tharpe with a partially nude female surfaced on the internet and social media, prompting coach Bill Self to say he was “extremely disappointed” with the incident.

"Naadir and I have talked numerous times since he's been here about his role and about his situation back home with his daughter," Self said. "He's told me many times how much he misses his little girl and she's had some health issues that has certainly made it difficult for him to be away from her for this extended period of time. She's doing very well now, but Naadir approached me after the season was over about him wanting to be closer to her. This is his decision to try and accomplish that."

The Jayhawks still have sophomores Frank Mason and Conner Frankamp on the roster and are still in play to sign Devonte Graham, who was released from his letter of intent with Appalachian State.
