The NHL has fined Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist $5,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct for squirting Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby with his water bottle.

The incident took place in Game 6 of the teams' playoff series after a confrontation between the squads at end of the second period.  As Lundqvist skated off the ice, he unleashed a good amount of water from his water bottle into Crosby's face.

A day earlier, Boston's Shawn Thornton was fined more than $2,800 for a similar incident from the bench on Montreal's P.K. Subban.

The $5,000 fine handed down to Lundqvist is the maximum allowed under the collective bargaining agreement without requiring a phone hearing.
