Flyers defenseman Erik Gustafsson has signed with Avangard Omsk of the Kontinental Hockey League. Flyers general manager Ron Hextall confirmed earlier reports that the 25-year-old Swede will not return to Philadelphia next season.

"I spoke with Erik today and he informed me that he does in fact, have a deal in place to play overseas. Although we are disappointed in his decision, we wish him all the best," Hextall said.

Gustafsson turned in a disappointing 2013-14 season that included several healthy scratches. He was in line to be a restricted free agent after completing a one-year, $1 million deal with the Flyers. He originally joined the Flyers via a three-year, entry-level contract in March of 2010.

Gustafsson scored six goals, tallied 17 assists and took 14 penalty minutes in 91 NHL games.
