Montreal Canadiens forward Dale Weise will not play in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals against the New York Rangers on Thursday.

Weise was leveled by New York Rangers defenseman John Moore in the third period of the Canadiens' 7-4 victory in Game 5. Moore received a match penalty for the hit and was suspended two games by the NHL.

Canadiens coach Michel Therrien said Weise did not have a concussion, but instead said Weise suffered a body injury.

"You're presuming it’s a head injury," Therrien said, via the Star-Ledger. "You're not correct."

"Well, after the hit he went to meet the doctors, saw the doctors. He was feeling fine about finishing the game," Therrien said. "For us, what is really important is player safety. This is important for us. It's been like that all season long. It's not going to change."

The Rangers lead the best-of-seven series three games to two.
