MUNICH (AP) -- Bayern Munich defeated Juventus 2-0 to take a commanding lead from the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal tie on Tuesday.

David Alaba got the home side off to a perfect start in the first minute when his speculative effort from outside the penalty area took a slight deflection from Arturo Vidal before nestling inside the right post.

Thomas Mueller deservedly made it 2-0 with a tap-in in the 63rd, when Mario Mandzukic cut the ball back after Gianluigi Buffon - who hadn't conceded in his previous five games - saved his first effort.

The only setback for Bayern was that Toni Kroos tore adductor muscles in his thigh in the first half, likely ruling the playmaker out for the rest of the season.
