AS Roma sign English left back Ashley Cole

English defender Ashley Cole, who spent the last eight seasons in the Premier League with Chelsea, has signed with AS Roma of Italy's Serie A, the team announced today.
Cole, a native Londoner, has spent his entire career in England. He played for Arsenal and Crystal Palace before joining Chelsea in 2006.
In May, Cole was left off England's World Cup roster and then announced his retirement from international competition. England's World Cup run ended unceremoniously after two losses and a draw in the group stage.
Cole's contract with Roma is for two years.
American right back DeAndre Yedlin, a breakout star at the World Cup, was reported to be joining Roma as well, but those reports were refuted by his camp.
