New York City FC signs veteran goalkeeper Josh Saunders
Former MLS goalkeeper Josh Saunders has signed with upcoming New York City FC, the team announced Thursday.
New York FC will begin its inaugural season in March 2015. Prior to that, Saunders will join Manchester City for the beginning of its preseason tour in Scotland from July 9-17. He will also play for the San Antonio Scorpions of the NASL on loan until the end of the year.
Saunders was initially selected in the fourth round of the 2003 MLS SuperDraft by the San Jose Earthquakes. The 33-year-old made his MLS debut in 2008 with the Los Angeles Galaxy, then started in goal for the Galaxy during the 2011 season and allowed just 17 goals in 19 regular-season games. The Galaxy won the MLS Cup Championship during the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
