FIFA will discuss new dates for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar at talks with football officials next week, the Associated Press reports

FIFA President Sepp Blatter has said that the tournament can't be played in the summer because of the region's extreme heat.

One possible solution would be to move the tournament to the winter, although critics of the plan say it will disrupt the club season.

FIFA, soccer's governing body, said the six continental confederations plus clubs, leagues and players' unions will be meet Sept. 8, led by Asian Football Confederation President Sheik Salman bin Ebrahim al Khalifa of Bahrain.

Another meeting is set for November.

After Qatar was awarded the World Cup almost four years ago, detractors argued it wasn't feasible to hold the tournament during the months of June and July, as temperatures in Qatar for that time period can reach 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
