A third division Greek soccer team has been punished after a man died from an attack at a home match in September, according to the Associated Press.
The fan, 46-year-old Costas Katsoulis, was attacked by other fans during the match. He sustained severe head injuries and died in a hospital two weeks later.
The Greek soccer association announced Wednesday that the home team, Irodotos, will face sanctions of a 15-point deduction, having to play 10 home games without fans in attendance, and a ban on acquiring new players for the rest of the season.
The attack occurred during a Sept. 14 game in Crete between Irodotos and Ethnikos.
