The communications technology company Avaya has been granted naming rights to the San Jose Earthquakes' new stadium, the club announced on Wednesday.
The stadium will feature an "interactive fan experience" including a mobile application and a videoconferencing system that will enable fans to see and hear players.
In addition, technology in the stadium that can "recognize who you are and what you’re doing in the network" will be able to craft messaging and information to fans.

“We’ll have this cloud-enabled stadium that Avaya is powering which enables us to create a better fan experience for our customers,” Kaval said. “It starts with our app, our Avaya stadium app which we’re now launching. It will allow people to handle commerce, things like actually having their ticket on their actual app, and they’ll be able to use that to scan into the building; being able use it on concessions and things of this nature, and for ordering in some parts of the venue, which is great.’
The San Jose Mercury News reports that Avaya will pay $20 million over 10 years as part of the deal and construction costs for the stadium have risen to $100 million.
The stadium, which will have a capacity of 18,000, is expected to be ready for the beginning of the 2015 MLS season.
