Chivas USA may be no more, but MLS still needed to resolve the issue of spreading its players across the league. Wednesday's dispersal draft took care of that, somewhat, with seven clubs claiming players, and star goalkeeper Dan Kennedy going to FC Dallas with the first overall selection.

Those who were not selected and are eligible will be available to be picked in December's Re-Entry Draft. Those ineligible for that will be entered in a separate waiver draft.

The inside story of how new MLS team LAFC went from dream to reality

According to MLS, teams making selections must honor players' existing contracts and pick up their 2015 options, but players taken in this draft can be left unprotected for next month's MLS Expansion Draft, where NYCFC and Orlando City will add to their rosters.

Erick "Cubo" Torres, Chivas USA's standout player and a Mexican national team forward, was not available for selection as MLS continues to negotiate with him to keep in him the league.

He was on loan from Chivas de Guadalajara with a league-option to purchase him outright. SI's Brian Straus reported that his buyout option in the loan agreement is $7.5 million.
