Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said midfielder Jack Wilshere has a significant ankle sprain and will miss the club's next few matches, according to reports

Wilshere, 22, was injured in the first half of Arsenal's Saturday loss to Manchester United. Wenger declined to speculate when Wilshere might return to action.

“Wilshere is out,” Wenger said, according to The Guardian. “I cannot give you a time schedule. He will be out for a while. He has to see a specialist next week to see for how long he will be out. We don’t know at the moment. He has a big ankle sprain. The first news is that he will be out for the next few games.”

Wilshere has a history of ankle injuries and missed time last season with a fractured foot.

In seven Premier League games this season, Wilshere has one goal and one assist.

Defender Laurent Koscielny will make his return from tendonitis in his Achilles tendon during Wednesday's match.

"He is in the squad for tomorrow," said Wenger of his French centre-back, who trained with his teammates on Tuesday. "It is very good news because he has been out for while now and defensively we are short in numbers. It is good to have his quality back."

Arsenal currently sits in eighth place in the Premier League with 17 points. The club hosts Borussia Dortmund in a Champions League group stage match on Wednesday at 2:45 p.m. ET.
