The New York Red Bulls have loaned goalkeeper Ryan Meara to New York City FC ahead of the 2015 season, the team announced.

The Red Bulls will also receive midfielder Sal Zizzo from New York City FC on a permanent basis. According to league rules, any player on intraleague loan must remain with his new team for the entire MLS season, during which he cannot play against his former team.

"Ryan Meara is a very promising young goalkeeper and has great potential," Red Bulls Sporting Director Andy Roxburgh said. "But, due to the form of Luis Robles, Ryan was not getting enough competitive games and this year-long loan deal will offset that problem. We'll be monitoring his progress with great interest."

Meara spent the last three seasons with the Red Bulls, but has made no regular season appearances in the past two years.

Zizzo recorded three assists in 19 appearances for Sporting Kansas City last season.
