Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo has been suspended for two matches after kicking an opponent during a La Liga game last weekend, the Spanish League announced.

Ronaldo kicked Cordoba defender Edimar during Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Cordoba.

Ronaldo received a red card for "kicking an opponent with the ball not within playing distance" and was already scheduled to miss this Saturday’s match against Real Sociedad. Now, he will also miss a Feb. 4 contest against Sevilla. It was only the fifth time that Ronaldo has received a red card in his career.

Ronaldo will be available for the Atlético Madrid match on Feb. 7.
