Alejandro Bedoya is one of a dwindling number of U.S. national team players playing their trade in Europe, but the midfielder assured he'd be part of that group for a little while longer on Tuesday. Bedoya signed a contract extension with French Ligue 1 side Nantes, a deal that will tie him to the club until the end of the 2018-2019 season. The extension was first reported by ESPN's Marc Stein.

How 'I Believe That We Will Win' became FC Nantes' victory chant

The deal is further indication of Bedoya's strong standing within the Nantes squad, which he joined when the club was newly promoted last season. The New Jersey native went on to enjoy a strong first season in the French top flight, appearing in 32 games across all competitions, scoring six goals and adding one assist. He has also brought an American flavor to the club, turning the American Outlaws' "I believe that we will win!" chant into the club's victory song.

Bedoya was among the United States' top performers at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, appearing in all four games (starting three) as the Americans went out in the round of 16 to Belgium.

That good form has carried over to the domestic season for Bedoya, who has become a fixture in the Nantes squad as it enjoys a solid season, currently sitting ninth in Ligue 1 with 32 points from 23 games. Bedoya has only scored one goal in 22 appearances this season, but he made it a good one
