Seattle Sounders midfielder Osvaldo Alonso is facing up to eight weeks off the field following successful groin surgery.

Sounders coach Sigi Schmid told the Seattle Timesthat Alonso could return to training in two weeks, but that at worst he could miss six to eight weeks. Alonso underwent surgery to remove scar tissue along his nerves.

"It's really sort of a wait-and-see," Schmid said. "On the outside, he could be out six-to-eight-weeks -- but that's the outside.

"He could be back out on the practice field in two weeks. We really don't know."

Last season, Alonso started 33 of Seattle's 34 Major League Soccer regular season matches. The three-time MLS All-Star helped the Sounders win the Supporters' Shield en route to a Western Conference Finals appearance.
