Sunderland fires head coach Gus Poyet
Sunderland fired head coach Gus Poyet on Monday after 17 months on the job, the club announced.
Poyet had a 23-22-30 record as Sunderland manager, and the team has only won one of its last 12 Premier League matches. The club also has the second worst home record in the Premiership this season.
According to TheGuardian, the club is in negotiations with former Dutch and Serbian coach Dick Advocaat to possibly take over.
“I would like to thank Gus for his endeavors during his time at the club, in particular last season’s ‘great escape’ and cup final appearance, which will live long in the memory of every Sunderland fan,” Sunderland chairman Ellis Short said.
“Sadly, we have not made the progress that any of us had hoped for this season and we find ourselves battling, once again, at the wrong end of the table. We have therefore made the difficult decision that a change is needed,” Short added.

Sutherland is currently one point above the relegation zone after losing 4-0 to Aston Villa on Saturday.
Poyet, 47, took over the club in October 2013.
Sunderland is currently 17th in the Premier League with 26 points. They play West Ham United on Saturday.
