FIFA president Sepp Blatter announced his intention to resign on Tuesday, amid the organization's ongoing corruption scandal. His full resignation speech can be read below.
Blatter has called for FIFA to hold an “extraordinary congress” to elect a new president. FIFA rules dictate that four months notice is required before any presidential election. The election “could take place anytime from December of this year to March of next year,” FIFA compliance chief Domenico Scala said.
Blatter was reelected to a fifth term as FIFA's president last week, just days after the U.S. Justice Department indicted 14 FIFA officials and business partners on a variety of corruption charges.
