U.S. women's national team forward Abby Wambach scored a goal just seconds before the end of the first half in the Americans' World Cup match Tuesday against Nigeria. It wound up being the winner in a 1-0 triumph at BC Place in Vancouver.

Wambach put the ball in the net off of a corner kick from Megan Rapinoe, volleying home a one-timed effort. It was Wambach's first goal of this World Cup. She did not start in the Americans' last match against Sweden.

The goal capped a half of nearly constant offensive pressure by the USWNT, which advanced to the round of 16 as the top seed from Group D with a win and will play a third-place group finisher in the first knockout round.

With the goal, Wambach tied retired German Birgit Prinz for second-most in Women's World Cup history with 14. Brazil's Marta is the career leader with 15.
