You know how it ends: Brandi Chastain ripping off her jersey, sinking to her knees, pumping her fists and creating one of the most iconic images in U.S. Soccer history.

But the 1999 Women's World Cup final between the USA and China at the Rose Bowl contained more drama in the buildup. There was Kristine Lilly's goal-line clearance on Fan Yunjie's chance in extra time (similar to Meghan Klingenberg's against Sweden in the 2015 group stage); there was the U.S. converting their first four penalties through Carla Overbeck, Joy Fawcett, Lilly and Mia Hamm; there was goalkeeper Brianna Scurry coming up with a clutch save on Liu Ying.

And then there was Chastain's winner, which clinched the USA's second Women's World Cup title, sent more than 90,000 fans in attendance into hysterics and cemented the team's place as 1999 SI Sportswomen of the Year.

As the two sides renew acquaintances on the grand stage in Ottawa Friday night (Be sure to follow along with us!), rewatch their penalty shootout below.
