After winning the United States' first World Cup since 1999, Abby Wambach and Christie Rampone lifted the trophy together.

The U.S. beat Japan 5–2 in Sunday's World Cup final after racing to a 4–0 lead just 16 minutes into the game. Carli Lloyd scored the fastest hat trick in Women's World Cup history and was rewarded with the Golden Ball Award. The U.S. also got goals from Lauren Holiday and Tobin Heath

Wambach and Rampone each made their final World Cup appearances late in the game. Wambach, 35, had announced that this World Cup would be her last, while Rampone, 40, has not officially announced her plans but is widely expected to call it a career after the tournament.

At the trophy presentation, the two veterans hoisted the trophy in tandem.
