Report: MLS offers contract to Didier Drogba; Chicago Fire leading suitor
MLS has offered former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba a contract and the Chicago Fire are making the most aggressive push to acquire him, according to an ESPN FC report.
An unnamed source told ESPN the contract was for 18 months and worth $2.5 million per season.
Drogba, 37, started eight games for Chelsea during the 2014–2015 Premier League season and scored four goals in league play. His contract with Chelsea lapsed at the end of last season.
The Daily Mail first reported earlier this week that Drogba was thinking of following in the footsteps of former EPL players Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard and playing for an MLS club.
New York City FC is also making a play for Drogba, the Mail reported, while ESPN said an “unknown Qatari club” was trying to lure Drogba as well.

Drogba had played for Chelsea from 2004 until 2012 before re-joining the team in 2014 on a one-year contract.
Following the 2011–2012 season with Chelsea, Drogba nearly signed with the Fire, but instead opted to play for Chinese team Shanghai Shenua.
