United Soccer Leagues' continued expansion is involving one of the best players to ever don a U.S. men's national team uniform.

Former U.S. star John Harkes will coach FC Cincinnati, a team slated to join third-tier USL in the spring of 2016. Harkes, who starred for D.C. United during his MLS playing days, also coached as an assistant with the New York Red Bulls under then-Red Bulls manager Bruce Arena. Harkes has also been a TV analyst for ESPN and radio host for Sirius XM in his post-playing days. His son, Ian, currently plays at Wake Forest University.

FC Cincinnati will reportedly be owned by the Lindner family–which used to own the Cincinnati Reds–and will play its home matches at renovated Nippert Stadium at the University of Cincinnati. USL currently has 24 teams, eight of which are operated by MLS clubs.
