After a protracted transfer saga, Manchester City has acquired midfielder Kevin De Bruyne from Wolfsburg for a fee of approximately $90,469,600 (80 million), reports German paper Bild.

The transfer fee would be a new Bundesliga record, almost doubling Roberto Firmino’s $46,397,650 (€41 million) from Hoffenheim to Liverpool in June. City’s local rival, Manchester United, had been tied to De Bruyne in various rumors this week as well. De Bruyne’s agent said the two sides were close to completing a deal.

The 24-year-old Belgian midfielder joinedWolfsburg in January 2014 from Chelsea. Last season, he set a Bundesliga record with 21 assists and scored 18 goals across all competitions. He would provide another attacking weapon for City, which sits first in the Premier League table with nine points and a 3-0-0 record after the first three weeks of the season.
