Tottenham and U.S. men's national team fullback DeAndre Yedlin is joining Sunderland on loan for the remainder of the season. Both Tottenham and Sunderland announced the move about an hour short of Tuesday's transfer deadline in England.

Yedlin signed with Spurs last August, but played for his former team, MLS's Seattle Sounders, on loan until January. Yedlin, the MLS 2013 Rookie of the Year, scored one goal in 56 career games with the Sounders, and he made his mark on the international stage in the 2014 World Cup, impressing with his speed and ability to get forward on the flank.

Yedlin joined Tottenham last winter, and he made his first-team debut with the club in April. He is currently with the U.S. national team, which will play friendlies against Peru and Brazil on Sept. 4 and Sept. 8, respectively. With him in camp is former Sunderland forward Jozy Altidore. Claudio Reyna also used to play for Sunderland during his club days.

“I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to play for a club with such great history," Yedlin told Sunderland's official website. “I’ve heard fantastic things about Sunderland and the supporters from Claudio Reyna and Jozy Altidore. Claudio speaks very highly of [Sunderland manager] Dick Advocaat from his time at Rangers.”
